Project Spotlight: TimeLine® for Minto Dream Home by Tanya Collins Design

Q: Tell us about your vision for the dream home?

Modern Desert is the overall theme with mid-century modern and art déco references.

Q: Tell us about the mix of materials and attention to detail evident in this project?

There are a lot of detail considerations evident in this project, from the choice of engineered wood floors to the applied wall mouldings in relation to furniture plan and interior architecture. Notably, the scale of the interior door transoms (windows above doors) relative to the ceiling height, the custom cabinetry and millwork, including the library ladder, glass backsplash, and kitchen island wrapped in Dekton Entzo. Plus, the tile patterns and the interplay of statement and ambient lighting relative to the furnishings.

Q: Why did you choose the TimeLine® balusters featured in the staircase for this project? 

I chose the balusters featured in the staircase for this project as it best reflects the modern art deco aesthetic.  By varying the baluster patterning, it creates an elevated and layered look unmatched by linear balusters and without any ornamentation. The curves created by the shape of the balusters are echoed in the arch details found in the decorative pieces like the mirrors, art, chairs, and sideboards.

Q: What is the most exciting part of the design process for you?

The most exciting part of the design process is seeing it evolve from nothing to the final result after installing furniture and décor. 

Q: What challenges and learnings did you encounter?

Challenges are inherent when supply chain issues still loom over projects. I have had to reselect products, finishes, and decor several times during the year while trying to stay true to my original vision and a finite group of suppliers.

I have learned to love the word 'backorder' and instead see it as an opportunity to perfect the design further by going in another direction.  It challenges your creativity and makes you a better and more versatile designer.
